Do you love working with car engines? The Vehicle Technology Pathway at Independence High School gives you hands-on career training and marketable industrial skills. Get real-world experience as an auto technician while you finish high school.

Learn technical skills in a modern training facility as you jumpstart your continuing education and prepare for a career as an auto technician. Many of our graduates have gone on to continue their education and/or get hired by our industry partners.

By the end of the Vehicle Technology Pathway at Independence High School program you’ll be able to:

View class descriptions

  • Do regular vehicle maintenance
  • Do basic vehicle inspection and diagnostic
  • Write a service order
  • Perform brake jobs, tires dismount/mount/balance
  • Perform wheel alignments
  • Perform MIG abd Oxy/Acetylene Welding

The Vehicle Technology Pathway at Independence High School prepares you for a variety of career and college options.

We’ve seen Independence High School graduates go on to attend Evergreen Valley College and De Anza College. They’ve also found full time work with our industry partners, including:

  • Winchester Auto Parts stores
  • Lexus of Stevens Creek

Can I get college credit while attending Independence High School?

Yes, you can earn up to 3 units of community college credits through dual enrollment with Evergreen Valley College Automotive.

What types of classes will I take at the Vehicle Technology Pathway at Independence High School?

In addition to the normal classes needed to graduate high school, you’ll take:

  • Introduction to Automotive Technology
  • Service Writing
  • Shop Management
  • Advanced Automotive Transportation (students enrolled in our advance classes get to participate in preengineering projects with students from San Jose State University Engineering)

What types of vehicle certification and training can I get as a high school student?

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preparation
  • Electric Vehicle training
  • Honda Apprentice training
